Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

White Lights is operated by DeadBeet LLC. This policy applies to the White Lights iPhone and Android apps, thewhitelights.com, and the White Lights services that support them.

2. Public competition records

White Lights presents powerlifting competition results from the public-domain OpenPowerlifting dataset. Those records may include an athlete's name, sex category, federation, division, equipment, tested status, bodyweight, weight class, attempts, total, placing, meet, date, and location.

White Lights does not collect these public records directly from athletes. Choosing, saving, or following a public career does not prove that the person using the app is that athlete.

Source corrections should be submitted to OpenPowerlifting so the shared public archive can be corrected for everyone.

3. Information kept on your device

The current app can store your unit preference, onboarding state, saved public careers, saved meets, My Passport selection, rivals, notification preferences, and an optional state, region, or country used for local meet suggestions on your device.

If you choose local meet suggestions, iOS or Android provides an approximate location while you are using the app. White Lights turns one location into a broad area and saves only that area on your device. It does not save a location trail or send your device location to the White Lights service. You can decline location and continue using the worldwide meet calendar.

If you tap Add to Calendar, White Lights prepares one event in the platform's calendar flow. On iPhone it requests write-only calendar access and uses Apple's event editor. On Android it sends the prepared event to your chosen calendar app. White Lights does not read your existing calendar events or upload calendar information. The event is saved only after you choose to add it.

If you choose a Passport photo, the app stores a processed copy in its local app storage. White Lights does not upload that photo in the current build. You can remove it from the Passport, clear local selections in Settings, or remove the app and its local data from your device.

If you open the private Health dashboard, White Lights can ask Apple HealthKit or Android Health Connect for the categories you choose: bodyweight, strength workouts, sleep, resting heart rate, and heart-rate variability. Android reports heart-rate variability as RMSSD, while Apple Health uses SDNN; White Lights does not compare those platform-specific values. The app reads these values only while you use it for readiness and check-in views. White Lights does not request background or extended-history Health Connect access, upload Health values, use them for advertising, diagnose medical readiness, recommend weight cutting, or write data to HealthKit or Health Connect. You can change Health access in iPhone or Android Settings.

4. Information processed when you use the service

When the app searches for a career or loads public Passport data, it sends the search text or requested public profile identifier to our service. Our hosting and security provider may process ordinary network information such as IP address, request headers, timestamps, and error information to deliver and protect the service.

White Lights uses Sentry for privacy-minimized crash and error reporting. Sentry can receive the app version and build, operating-system and device context, error type, and stack trace needed to diagnose a failure. White Lights removes account identity, request details, breadcrumbs, extra fields, and exception messages before sending an event. It does not enable Sentry screenshots, view hierarchies, session replay, performance tracing or profiling, automatic sessions, or user-interaction recording. HealthKit and Health Connect values, Passport photos, device location, Apple or Google tokens, private meet plans and logs, saved Studio views, and on-device model questions are not sent to Sentry. The Sentry projects are configured not to store IP addresses, and these diagnostics are not linked to a White Lights account.

When you contact support, we receive the name, email address, topic, device details, app version, message, and attachments you choose to send. We use them to answer the request and keep them only as long as reasonably needed for support, safety, recordkeeping, or legal obligations.

5. Accounts and athlete verification

Optional Sign in with Apple may provide a stable Apple account identifier and, if you choose to share it, an email address or private relay address. Optional Sign in with Google may provide a stable Google account identifier and the verified email address on that Google account. White Lights validates either provider's identity token on the server before issuing its own opaque session. On Android, that White Lights session is encrypted with Android Keystore-backed storage.

We store provider account links, an opaque session digest, synced public profile identifiers, My Passport and rival selections, unit and notification choices, and account-lifecycle records needed for security and deletion. A non-private, verified email may link Apple and Google sign-in to the same White Lights account. White Lights never guesses a link from an Apple private relay address.

Choosing My Passport is not identity verification. The initial verification program will be limited to invited adult athletes. A completed server-side review may create the narrow public label Athlete verified. It does not give anyone ownership of public results or make White Lights an identity authority. Verification, appeals, revocation, privacy, and deletion will not require a paid subscription.

White Lights will not accept government IDs, selfies, federation documents, social challenge screenshots, or private conversations through the app or ordinary support email. Raw review evidence will remain in the approved external channel and should be deleted within 30 days after a final decision or appeal closes. White Lights stores only the claim state, policy version, reviewer and reason references, and an opaque external evidence reference. That opaque reference may remain while a claim is active, is cleared within 90 days after rejection or revocation, and is cleared immediately on account deletion. Minimal pseudonymized decision history may remain for appeals, conflicts, safety, and abuse prevention.

A verified athlete with Athlete Studio access may submit a short bio, approved links, and captions for selected public meets. Drafts and rejected submissions stay private. Only approved content is published, and athlete-written content is kept separate from OpenPowerlifting facts. Athlete Studio content can be deleted even if access expires. No production verification invitations are available at launch.

6. Subscriptions

Apple or Google processes Athlete Studio purchases for its platform. RevenueCat receives an app customer identifier, product and purchase information, subscription status, and related transaction events so White Lights can offer, grant, restore, and measure subscription access. When you are signed in, White Lights connects the RevenueCat customer to your opaque White Lights account identifier so access can follow the account. RevenueCat does not receive your HealthKit or Health Connect values, Passport photos, or device location from White Lights.

7. Sharing and photos

Meet stories, Passport cards, and other exports are rendered by the app. Nothing is posted automatically. A share leaves your device only after you choose a destination through the iOS or Android system share sheet. Your chosen photo may appear on an export when the app clearly discloses that it is user-selected.

You are responsible for having permission to use and share any photo you select.

8. On-device intelligence

White Lights calculates competition facts, personal records, standings, targets, and comparisons deterministically from published data. Supported Apple intelligence features may improve the presentation of those facts using Apple's on-device Foundation Models.

White Lights does not currently send career data or photos to an external AI provider. If that changes, we will explain the provider and choices before the feature is enabled.

9. How we use information

• Provide search, public Passports, comparisons, exports, and support.
• Remember choices and, when you sign in, sync the choices you ask us to sync.
• Authenticate accounts, process invited verification requests, moderate athlete-written content, and respond to provider account changes.
• Maintain security, diagnose failures, prevent abuse, and protect the integrity of the service.
• Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.

We do not sell personal information or use it for third-party advertising.

10. Service providers

Cloudflare provides website hosting, API delivery, private and public storage, security, scheduled processing, and email routing. Resend delivers website contact-form messages to the White Lights support mailbox. Apple provides the iPhone platform, HealthKit, system sharing and photo selection, TestFlight and App Store distribution, Sign in with Apple, and in-app purchase processing. Google provides the Android platform, Health Connect, system sharing and photo selection, Google sign-in, Google Play distribution, and Google Play purchase processing. RevenueCat provides subscription catalog, entitlement, restore, and purchase analytics services. Sentry provides privacy-minimized crash and error reporting.

These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies as needed to provide their services. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights or safety, or as part of a business transfer subject to appropriate safeguards.

11. Retention, deletion, and your choices

Local app data remains on your device until you remove it through the app, clear the app's storage, or uninstall the app. Public OpenPowerlifting records remain part of the source archive and are not deleted by clearing White Lights data.

The app provides an account deletion control in Settings. Deletion revokes provider links and White Lights sessions, removes synced choices, email and athlete-written persona content, clears evidence references, and removes or pseudonymizes provider account identifiers. Minimal decision history without raw evidence may remain for trust, appeal, conflict, abuse, or legal obligations. Deletion does not remove independently sourced public competition records or automatically cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription. You can manage or cancel a subscription in the app or your platform account settings.

Sentry diagnostics are deliberately not linked to a White Lights account, so an account deletion request cannot be used to identify or retrieve a person's diagnostic event. Those events expire under the Sentry project's diagnostic retention setting.

You can also request White Lights account deletion without the app. This path does not require reinstalling White Lights.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or a copy of personal information we control. Contact [email protected]. We may need to verify a request before acting on it.

12. Children and young athletes

White Lights is not directed to children under 13. The initial athlete-verification program is limited to adults. Public competition archives can contain results for young athletes. If you believe we control personal information submitted by a child under 13, contact us so we can investigate. Source-record corrections must be handled with OpenPowerlifting.

13. Security and international processing

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No service can guarantee absolute security.

White Lights and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. Those locations may have different data-protection laws than your home country.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as White Lights changes. The effective date above will identify the current version. If a change materially affects how account information is handled, we will provide reasonable notice through the app or website.
